The Czech Republic battled back from two goals down to take a gripping 2-2 draw against Croatia, in a match tainted by further crowd disturbances.

Pavel Vrba’s side were thoroughly outplayed for much of the match on Friday, and a second straight defeat looked likely when Ivan Perisic opened the scoring before half-time.

Ivan Rakitic doubled the lead with a fine chipped finish, and Milan Skoda’s late header appeared a mere consolation.

But in a match that had to be extended for several minutes when flares were thrown by Croatia fans, Tomas Necid swooped with a late penalty to ensure a share of the points.
